What we collect and why

When you buy a book

To fulfil your order we collect your name, email address, delivery address, and the birth information you provide at checkout — date, time, and place of birth.

Birth information submitted at checkout is used only for the purpose of creating your book and supporting your customer relationship with Stars+Soil. We do not sell or share this information with third parties.

When you subscribe to the newsletter

If you choose to subscribe to our letters, we collect your name and email address. We use Flodesk to manage our mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any letter.

When you visit our website

Our website is built on Squarespace, which collects basic analytics data — pages visited, time on site, general location by country. This data is anonymous and aggregated. We use it to understand how the site is used. We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to third parties.

The legal basis for processing your data

We process your purchase data on the basis of contractual necessity — we need it to fulfil your order. We process your email address for marketing on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

How we store and protect your data

Your data is stored securely via Squarespace and Flodesk, both of which are GDPR-compliant platforms. Birth information submitted at checkout is used only for the purpose of writing your book and is not stored beyond what is necessary to complete that work.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties except where necessary to fulfil your order (for example, a postal carrier receiving your delivery address).

How long we keep your data

We keep order records for six years in line with HMRC requirements. Email subscriber data is held for as long as you remain subscribed. You can ask us to delete your data at any time by writing to hello@starsandsoil.co.uk.

Customer order information may be retained to support ongoing customer care unless you ask us to delete it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to ask us to delete it, and to object to how we use it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@starsandsoil.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
